Medical Director, Cigna Health
Dr. Anil Sipahimalani is a Medical Director at Cigna and has been with the company since 2008. He is involved in clinical and operational oversight for disease management and health and wellness programs, on both the medical and behavioral sides.
He is passionate about using technology to improve access and quality of health care. He currently supports remote health monitoring initiatives, including those for diabetes. He is also actively involved in helping develop our diabetes prevention strategy. He supports Cigna’s initiatives to boost resiliency and reduce stress for our employees and various client populations, including evaluating whether online programs/apps/virtual reality solutions can produce results in this area.
In partnership with the Cigna IT/innovations/clinical departments, he is actively involved in piloting Cigna’s Pod solution which uses virtual reality environments created by our IT department, coupled with both internally-developed mindfulness meditation tracks and use of the Muse headset for neurobiofeedback – with the aim of reducing stress and boosting resiliency for our employees as well as client populations.
Dr. Sipahimalani’s background includes psychiatry, addiction medicine and integrative medicine – and he firmly believes that applying principles of functional medicine to treat the whole patient is the key to optimal health.
Dr. Sipahimalani is board certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine and Integrative Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a life member of the Indo-American Psychiatric Association. He received his degree from Grant Medical College, Mumbai, India and completed his internship and residency at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.
